'God wanted my little angel' | Grandfather speaks out after 4-year-old killed in 'targeted attack' as BCSO searches for suspects

When the shooting happened, Castillo said his daughter tried her best to shield her babies from gunfire.

SAN ANTONIO — Crime Stoppers is now offering up to $5,000 for information that helps investigators track down suspects in the Windsor Hollow shooting that killed a 4-year-old girl and left four others injured.

The incident happened on May 8 around 7:40 p.m. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said it appeared to be a “targeted attack” when the gunmen fired at least 30 rounds in the family’s townhome. A mother, father and two young boys were shot but survived.

The grandfather of the 4-year-old who died is identifying her as Maryann. Investigators said she was shot in the face.

“That was my baby girl,” Hector Castillo said.

Castillo said he was with his grandchildren an hour before the shooting.

"She was a beautiful angel since day one I saw her, I knew something was special about her,” Castillo said.

When he got the call about the shooting, he said he was in disbelief.

"My world ended, I'm sick, my stomach dropped and oh my god I don't wish this on nobody,” Castillo said.

He said he agrees that this was a targeted attack, but he still does not know why it happened. BCSO released surveillance videos and pictures in hopes someone will identify the suspects.

When the shooting happened, Castillo said his daughter tried her best to shield her babies from gunfire. He said she has a three-year-old boy as well who was there but was not hurt.

Her 7-year-old and 8-year-old are still recovering in the hospital.

"She got shot in the hip, but she's walking around still carrying her other baby, I don't know how she's doing it but she's strong,” Castillo said.

Even as her wounds heal, Castillo said her daughter is a missing part of her. He said Maryann’s death is a pain the family is working to get through, together.

The family set up a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral costs.

"I had like four years with her of course not enough, but God wanted my little angel,” Castillo said. "We'll see each other one day again."

Crime Stoppers may pay up to $5,000 for information which leads to arrests in this crime.

To be eligible for a reward, tips must be submitted directly to Crime Stoppers.
