Young girl wants a forever family by her side before she takes on middle school

Math is Faith's favorite subject. She also likes singing Olivia Rodrigo songs, playing soccer and ice skating.

Every week, KVUE's Hannah Rucker features a different child in Texas foster care, in the hopes of helping them find their forever family. For this segment, Hannah met up with a bright young girl at the Altitude Trampoline Park in South Austin.

Faith is 12 years old and in the fifth grade. She's hopeful she will find a forever family before entering middle school in the fall, but she said she isn't too nervous about starting a new school.

"I'm excited for math class because I'm already good at math," Faith said.

Faith said she also likes learning on the computer and playing different games. She also enjoys singing, and Olivia Rodrigo is her favorite artist right now.

"I used to actually play guitar, but I stopped playing it," Faith said.

Faith currently lives in a foster home with four other children in foster care. She also has a little brother who was adopted by a different family.

"I want to say [I've been in foster care] four years – however old my baby brother is, that's how long it's been," Faith said. "Because my baby brother was just born when our mother left us."

KVUE launched the Forever Families segment with Partnerships for Children (PFC) in June 2020 to highlight children in the Heart Gallery of Central Texas who need secure and permanent families. Every day, there are nearly 1,000 children waiting to get adopted in Central Texas, according to PFC.

Editor's noteThe children who are in the Heart Gallery program and featured in KVUE's Forever Families segments are children who have had every effort made on their behalf to connect them with family or others in their community to provide options for permanent, adoptive homes. Through no fault of their own, that hasn’t happened yet, and so in partnership with the Department of Family and Protective Services, we collaborate to bring awareness to KVUE viewers about these children in the hopes of finding them permanency before they age out.
