AUSTIN, Texas — Trudy's, a long-standing Tex-Mex restaurant chain, is down to one Austin location after closing its South Star restaurant on Little Texas Lane on Monday.
The restaurant group was purchased out of bankruptcy by a venture capital group in 2020. Since then, Trudy's has closed two locations in Austin.
Despite the closures, the Trudy's CEO says the restaurant is eyeing expansion, particularly with two new locations in Austin, as well as forays into Houston and San Antonio.
"We have looked at multiple options to keep this location open, but the economics and changes in the immediate shopping area unfortunately do not work," Trudy's CEO Scott Taylor said. "We want to thank all our loyal fans in South Austin for making Trudy's a part of their lives over the years, and we invite them to visit our North Star restaurant whenever they can. We are looking to re-engage with the local artists and re-energize some of the cool elements in the iconic North Star location while we look to bring new locations to the Austin market."
